With Chord Prepaid Subscriptions, operators have the ability to automatically have prepaid subscriptions convert to standard recurring subscriptions after the prepaid period is completed. The mechanism by which a *prepaid* subscription is converted to a *recurring* subscription is through the set-up and application of a promotion configured with a specific set of rules (more details below).

***NOTE: ***Assuming that prepaid subscription is configured to convert to recurring, at the completion of all of prepaid installments, the prepaid conversion will *consist of the creation of a net-new recurring subscriptio*n which will be activated at the end of the prepaid duration. This is done this way for two reasons:

- The initial/original subscription is, for obvious reasons, considered a *prepaid* subscription. This subscription type is immutable and designed to be predefined.
- The new *recurring* subscription allows for flexibility and customization in the future in the event the customer would like to modify

# Configuration

## How to Create a Conversion Promotion

Navigate to your promotions page and create a **New Promotion***.*

Once created, it is recommended that the promotion include these **discount rules **(though can vary by use-case):

- `Order contains prepaid subscription`
  - Guarantees that only prepaid subscriptions will be targeted/eligible
  - Has a `Include gift prepaid subscrpitions` toggle which can be turned on/off, depending on use-case need
- `Subscription nth duration`
  - Allows for targeting of *specific prepaid subscription* duration/lengths
  - Ex: Only allow prepaid subscriptions which are *Weekly, *have a interval length of *4 weeks* and include *3 prepaid installments, *to be eligible for conversion

***NOTE: ***Remember to enable `Always apply?` to allow for OMS to attempt and check this promotion against all orders.

Once the discount rules are configured, the `Convert prepaid to recurring subscription` promotion adjustment type must be configured.

# Validating Promotion on Order

When the promotion is succesfuly applied to an order, the `convert_prepaid_to_subscription` attribute should be present on order metadata and visible within the order admin UI.

If `true`,then we can expect that the Prepaid Subscription will be converted to a regular subscription once it completes its installments.

# Managing Prepaid Subscriptions

## Viewing a Prepaid Subscription

1. Navigate to[ Prepaid Subscriptions](https://hub.chord.co/prepaid_subscriptions) in the OMS admin
2. Click on any specific prepaid subscription to edit
3. View all details in the sidebar (state, recurring type, gift status, etc.)
4. View installment progress with visual indicators

## Testing Prepaid Subscription Conversion

### Generating Installments (Manually)

1. In the sidebar, click "Generate installment" button
2. OMS creates a new installment order
3. Order needs to be manually completed
4. Progress bar updates automatically

## Completing Prepaid Subscriptions (Manually)

1. When all installments are fulfilled and complete, the  `Complete prepaid subscription` button is enabled
2. Click the button to mark subscription as complete
3. If the prepaid sub was originally eligible for the conversion promo, the subscription will convert to a recurring regular subscription
