Subscriptions

To allow your customers to subscribe to your products and be charged a recurring fee—usually monthly or yearly.

Contentful

The subscription business model is defined within the CMS in Content Model. You can populate subscription information for a product through the Subscription attribute in the Contentful Product content model.

The Subscription attribute allows you to enter the following information associated with a subscription:

  • Slug
  • Presentation
  • Discount Percentage

This will allow you to present the subscription options on your website to your customer by leveraging the methods available in the Chord SDK

OMS



The OMS is synced with Contentful. Once a product is subscribable, you will be able to see the product set to “Subscribable” in the OMS.

Navigate to the Product page and notice the Subscribable checkbox.

if this is not checked, the product will not be listed for Subscription. Make sure to turn this on if you want to offer your product as a Subscription too

Note: Customers can checkout with BOTH a one time purchase AND a subscription in their cart at once.

Subscriptions & Account Profile

Customers can login to the website through Magic Link, which allows them to login with just their email address.

Once logged in, customers can see all subscriptions associated with their email on their account page.

‌Note: The front-end will be designed by your developers or third-party of your choice.

On their account page, customers can manage a subscription where the following behavior is available to them:

  • Skip next refill
  • Cancel subscription
  • Edit shipping address associated with subscription
  • Edit billing address associated with subscription

Customer subscriptions can also be managed from the OMS.

Create a subscription in the OMS

Your team can also create subscriptions from the Order Management System - to do so

Click Subscription in the left Menu

Click New Subscription

In the User dropdown you can select the customer the subscription will be shipped to

The Actionable Date is when your subscription will start

The Interval Length and Units is where you select how often you would like the products to be shipped to your customer.

The Interval Units are either days, weeks, months or even years

The End Date is when your subscription will terminate and the Store is your website. If you have multiple websites they will be listed in the dropdown.

Proceed with providing billing and shipping addresses and the line item(s) for the subscription

Note that the products that are subscribable will be listed under Line items - More on that in the CMS section

Click Create

  • What are the statuses of a Subscription?

Subscription States

Active

Pending Cancelation

Canceled: Your subscription has been canceled

Inactive

Processing State:

New: Your subscription is being processed. When payment is processed the processing state will update to Success

Failure: your subscription has failed. Check the Installment tab and look if your subscription has been fulfilled or not. More often than not a failed subscription is due to a payment issue. Expired credit cards are often the case….

Success: Payment has been unsuccessful and your subscription is ready to be fulfilled

  • Can I edit a Subscription that is Active?

Yes, you can edit your subscription whenever you like. Navigate to your subscription’s page and make your edit/update as described above

  • Can I pause a subscription?

Yes, you now have the option to pause your subscription if your customer requests it - this can be done in the OMS

  • Can I delete a subscription?

It is recommended that you mark your subscription as Cancelled. You can click the Cancel icon next to the subscription you’d like to end/delete in your Subscription page

  • Can I create a Subscription from within the OMS?

Yes, you can manually create a subscription in your OMS - Navigate to Subscriptions and click New Subscription and refer to the OMS section in this guide

  • Can I modify a subscription that was done online in the OMS?

Yes, you can edit the address, the dates, products, payment and much more in your Subscription page

  • Can I change the products in an active subscription?

Yes, you can. You can scroll down to the Line items section and modify them there

  • What is an Actionable Date

The Actionable Date is when your subscription will start

  • Can I update an address to a subscription?

Yes, if you need to make a change of billing or shipping addresses you can do so in the Subscription page

  • Can I change the method of Payment in a subscription?

You can update your subscription’s payment in the Subscription page

  • Will my customers receive an email reminding them of an upcoming subscription?

Yes, reminders can be sent to your customers as the date of your choice. This can be configured in your OMS under Settings/Store

SUBSCRIPTION_DEFAULT_REMINDER_DAYS - value (in days) is the number of day BEFORE the actionable date a customer will receive a reminder. For instance 15

SUBSCRIPTION_LAST_CHANCE_REMINDER_DAYS value (in days) is the number of day BEFORE the actionable date. In most cases our customers set it to 2

Emails templates are in Contentful, under Emails and can be edited and branded accordingly

  • If I cancel an order that is attached to a Subscription, will that cancel my whole subscription?

No, the specific order will be canceled but the subscription will remain as Active

  • Can i add a product to an existing subscription?

Yes, you can add products that are subscribable from within the OMS platform
